Update #2
LU-Alert: Hurricane Watch – Tropical Storm Eta update for immediate release 11/8/2020
Tropical Storm Eta picked up strength Sunday as it moved over Cuba and the Florida Straits, and it could become a hurricane by the time it reaches the Keys. Eta is growing closer to the state and threatens dangerous storm surge, flash floods and strong winds over parts of Cuba and Florida.
There is a hurricane watch in effect for the coast of southern Florida, from Deerfield Beach to Bonita Beach, and for the Florida Keys and FPL predicts widespread South Florida power outages predicted for Monday.
The University campus will be CLOSED Monday. Facilities management and IT will ensure the safety of equipment and the proper operation of the back-up generator and the servers. As for today, campus activities are scheduled to resume under the current COVID-19 restriction on Tuesday; however, an updated announcement will be shared on Monday, November 9.
As the predicted power shortages might impact online delivery, the University announces the following changes:
The College of Biomedical Sciences postpones all online delivery scheduled for Monday, November 9, to a later date. Faculty will get in touch with all students to determine a suitable make-up day.
The College of Pharmacy does not have classes November 9, however re-assessment is scheduled to take place as planned. If a student gets disconnected due to a power outage he needs to contact the college immediately (if possible). In that case he will be allowed to retake the re-assessment at a later date TBD.
Larkin University continues to monitor ETA and will provide updates as conditions warrant.
It is important all Larkin University students and employees continue to monitor your email and the university website www.ularkin.org/alerts-eta as well local authorities and FLP in the area you are living for updated information, and media outlets for the latest on the storm.
Stay healthy, proud and strong!
