Job Description

Larkin University is a private, non-profit educational institution currently comprised of the College of Biomedical Sciences, the College of Pharmacy and the School of Physician Assistant Program.  Larkin University was created to support the education and health care needs of South Florida’s diverse communities. Job Summary:  The Instructional faculty has the responsibility to facilitate teaching and learning in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical setting in the Physician Assistant Program. The faculty will work closely with the didactic, clinical faculty coordinators as a member of the Larkin PA Program team.  The instructional faculty will be appointed as a full-time 1 FTE faculty and will teach in areas of expertise, participate in program’s curriculum development and revision, share responsibility for assigned committees, program, and university assignments.

 

Accreditation

  • Assist the Program Director with the following:
    • Meeting the ARC-PA accreditation.
    • Maintain compliance with the regulations by adhering to the Standards and ARC-PA policies.

Job Description

  • Provide instruction in the didactic and clinical phase of the PA Program.
  • Participate in curriculum development and revision.
  • Serve on Program and University committees.
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate students.
  • Prepare and submit student information to Department Chairperson
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Adequate delivery of course content following all learning objectives according to program standards.

Advising

  • Serve as academic advisor for assigned students.

Administrative

  • Proctor exams in clinical and didactic phase of the program.
  • Calculate and reconcile final grades.
  • Participate in the admissions process including application review and interview.
  • Serve on the admissions committee as assigned.
  • Serve as a member of the PA Academic Progress Committee.
  • Participate in the preparation of the student handbook and university catalogue.
  • Provide input in the writing of accreditation documents.
  • Serve on university-wide committees.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts.
  • Participate in advisory board meetings.

Education, Preparation, and Training

  • The instructional faculty must be an NCCPA certified Physician Assistant and/or possess a Master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in a Health Sciences field (e.g., Health Science, Medicine, Physician Assistant, Public Health). All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical practice experience in medical related field and 3 years of teaching experience.
  • The PA candidate must graduate from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Maintain NCCPA board certification.
  • Participate in scholarly and research activities; maintain CME requirements.

Professional Activities

  • Pursue the following professional activities:
    • Participate in presentations at local and national PA organizations (as appropriate)
    • Be involved in lobbying activities related to the PA profession.
    • Participate in professional development activities.
    • Participate in medical mission activities.
    • Participate in research activities (as required)
