The 1st International Conference on Clinical Trial and Innovative Therapeutics (July 24-26, 2017) has recently been concluded in Cape Town, South Africa. Larkin University College of Pharmacy organized this conference together with the South African Training Academy.
Approximately 50 individuals from universities, pharmaceutical companies and research laboratories from Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, India, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and the United States attended this meeting. The scientific program of this 3-day conference consisted of 3 keynotes, 3 plenary and various oral presentations.
Dr. Anupam Bishayee, Professor and Founding Chair, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Larkin University College of Pharmacy served as conference chair, presented a keynote talk titled “Pomegranate: A unique fruit with extraordinary cancer preventive and therapeutic potential”, and conducted a scientific session as moderator. Dr. Bishayee also co-facilitated a workshop titled “Modern drug discovery and development from traditional medicinal plants: Pros and cons for commercialization in the African market”.
“Since we live in a world with increasing prevalence of various chronic diseases and encounter with the serious problem of drug resistance, discovery and development of new drugs for targeted therapy, and individualized and precision medicine with superior efficacy and acceptable toxicity are absolutely needed”, said Dr. Bishayee.
