LARKIN UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER DR. JEFFREY B. KINDLER

Dear Lions, dear Larkin University Community,

Larkin University is excited to announce that the Former Chairman and CEO of Pfizer, the world’s largest research-based pharmaceutical company, Jeffrey B. Kindler, will be the keynote speaker for Larkin University’s Commencement Ceremony on May 20, 2020.

Mr. Kindler, who not only held leadership positions at some of the world’s most respected companies, but also worked with former U.S. President Bill Clinton to help bring medicines to the developing world and was a member of President Barack Obama’s Management Advisory Board, will address the Class of 2020, their families, University trustees, offices, faculty, staff and alumni. Mr. Kindler will also receive the University’s highest honor, an honorary degree, Doctor of Science.

Currently, Mr. Kindler serves as CEO of Centrexion Corporation, a privately held biotherapeutics company, developing pain therapies; Operating Partner at Artis Ventures, a leading venture capital firm; and Managing Director at Starboard Capital Partners, a private equity firm. He is also Global Chair of the GLG Institute, a membership-based learning community for leading executives. He is an advisor to a number of healthcare companies and serves on the boards of public and private companies. As mentioned, Jeff Kindler is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pfizer, which he joined in January 2002 and from which he retired in December 2010. As CEO, he led Pfizer’s $68 billion merger and acquisition of Wyeth, diversified Pfizer’s product portfolio, improved its R&D pipeline and reshaped the company’s commercial, innovation and leadership models to drive growth and cultural change.

Previously, Mr. Kindler held multiple executive positions at McDonald’s Corporation, including Executive Vice President and General Counsel, as well as President of Partner Brands, which included overseeing Boston Market, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Donato’s Pizza and Pret a Manger. Before joining McDonald’s Corporation, Mr. Kindler was Vice President of Litigation and Legal Policy of the General Electric Company. Earlier in his career, Kindler practiced civil and criminal litigation as a partner at the Washington D.C. firm of Williams & Connolly; was an attorney at the Federal Communications Commission; and served as a law clerk to Judge David L. Bazelon of the U.S. Court of Appeals of the D.C. Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan, Jr.

Jeff currently serves on the not-for-profit boards of Jazz at Lincoln Center and Tisch College. He has previously served on the not-for-profit boards of The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA Columbia), The Manhattan Theater Club and Tufts University.

Mr. Kindler earned his BA in 1977 from Tufts University summa cum laude and his JD in 1980 from Harvard magna cum laude, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review
