Gender Role Identity, Wellness, and African American Women

African American women have experienced challenges in navigating their gender role identity in the United States since enslavement. These challenges have led to questions about the impact of their overall wellness while continuing to navigate their personhood. Limited research on the topic of wellness regarding African Americans adds to substantiating concern. This presentation will highlight the research study regarding the aspects of masculine, feminine, androgynous, and undifferentiated gender role identities and total wellness among African American women. The results and discussion of this research study will address considerations regarding future research.
