Possible interaction of cannabinoids with Aldo-Keto Reductases (AKRs) and Carbonyl reductases (CBRs) and their epigenetics regulation.
Though there is sparse research data on the implication of cannabinoids on the aldo keto reductases. However, cannabinoids have been found to influence the activity of aldo-keto reductases (AKRs), which may have implications for both cancer therapy and drug metabolism. Some cannabinoids act as substrates of specific AKR enzymes, such as AKR1C1 and AKR1C3, which are involved in steroid hormone metabolism and prostaglandin synthesis. By modulating AKR activity, cannabinoids could alter the metabolic processing of chemotherapeutic agents and affect hormone-related cancer growth. This interaction may present new therapeutic possibilities but also underscores the need for caution, as though we have no data, but cannabinoids might impact drug efficacy when used alongside certain cancer treatments.
