Teaching Interests

Dr. Bloemer’s teaching interests include pharmacology, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, and therapeutics. She is passionate about encouraging curiosity in the classroom and linking basic science concepts to applications in clinical practice.

Scholarly Interests

Dr. Bloemer’s research is focused on identifying molecular mechanisms underlying neurological and psychological disorders and developing novel therapeutics to treat these disorders. She is interested in how synaptic dysfunction leads to neurocognitive deficits in conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, and how restoration of synaptic function can provide treatment. She has been studying the impact of the hormone adiponectin on cognitive function and the potential neuroprotective role of adiponectin receptor signaling in Alzheimer’s disease. She is also interested in the impact of psychoactive substances on neurodevelopment and the role of the gut-brain axis in neuropsychological disorders.
